Unlocking

1.5 & 1.6 HDi / BlueHDi remapping: more torque, less fuel — even on the locked recent ECUs

Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel: the 1.5 and 1.6 HDi/BlueHDi are everywhere. Even the recent versions with a locked Bosch ECU can now be unlocked at our workshop, on site and the same day.

These are the most common diesels on our roads. Smooth, frugal, hard-wearing when maintained — but held back by the manufacturer to cover every use case. Here is what a sensible remap brings them, and how we handle even the latest locked generations, in Nivelles.

Two engines, a whole fleet

The 1.6 HDi / BlueHDi (DV6 family) and the 1.5 BlueHDi (DV5 family) power a huge part of the Stellantis/PSA group: Peugeot, Citroën, DS and part of the Opel range. On the ECU side, they range from the Bosch EDC17 on the 1.6 to the Bosch MD1 on recent 1.5 BlueHDi units. And that is where it gets tricky: the latest generations are locked.

The lock on recent versions

As on other brands, recent ECUs (typically the 1.5 BlueHDi with a Bosch MD1 unit) are protected: software signature and blocked OBD access. They can no longer be reached through the standard diagnostic port like an older 1.6 HDi. As a result, many workshops can handle a 2012 1.6 HDi but get stuck on a 2021 1.5 BlueHDi.

Our solution: local unlocking, no opening, no shipping

On these locked units, we unlock on site, without opening the ECU (no removal, no soldering) and without sending it away. In practice: unlocking and remapping the same day, with no multi-day downtime and no shipping logistics. The 1.6 HDi units accessible over OBD are handled directly.

What changes behind the wheel

On these small diesels, a sensible remap is felt above all in everyday driving:

  • More low-end torque: sharper pick-up, more relaxed driving, easier towing.
  • Lower consumption possible: with an efficiency-focused map and identical driving, the engine works better at low rpm.
  • No more response lag or that flat spot before the turbo spools up.
  • Gains measured on our dyno (before / after), specific to your vehicle.

Our work remains a legal, sensible remap: we use the engine's headroom without touching the emissions systems and in compliance with the regulations in force.

Unsure about your version (accessible 1.6 HDi or locked 1.5 BlueHDi)? Send us your VIN and we will confirm the approach before your appointment.

The Powerconcept method: measured and controlled

Since 1995, we develop custom maps, validated on the dyno, with a systematic backup of the original. On a well-maintained diesel, a sensible remap is handled with ease. And if your engine is not suited to it, we will tell you straight.

Frequently asked questions

My recent 1.5 BlueHDi is locked: is it feasible?

Yes. We unlock the locked Bosch ECU on site, without opening or shipping it, then remap — all in the same day.

What about an older 1.6 HDi?

Most are handled directly via the OBD port. We confirm depending on the exact ECU in your vehicle.

Can consumption really be reduced?

With identical driving and an efficiency-focused map, yes, it is possible and we measure it on the dyno. The result mainly depends on how you drive.

Do you touch the DPF or AdBlue?

No. We perform a legal, sensible remap, with no intervention on the emissions systems.

Is it reversible?

Yes, the original map is backed up; a return to factory state remains possible at any time.
