Whenever you think about getting more from your engine, the same question comes up: Stage 1 or Stage 2? At Powerconcept, we develop every map to measure and validate it on our dyno, in Nivelles, since 1995.
Stage 1: the full potential, without touching the mechanics
Stage 1 is a purely software optimisation of the original map. We read your vehicle's ECU, then rewrite the engine parameters to use the headroom left by the manufacturer. No part is added or modified. You gain torque and power, with smoother driving and stronger pick-up. On a turbo diesel, the extra torque is felt right from low revs, exactly where everyday driving happens. For the vast majority of drivers, this is the best balance between the gains and the simplicity of the work.
Stage 2: for an already modified vehicle
Stage 2 is for vehicles that have already received performance parts: a freer exhaust line, direct intake, a more efficient intercooler. These change the way the engine breathes, and the original map no longer suits it. We then develop a map designed for your exact setup. The gains are stronger, but they only make sense if the mechanical side follows. Stage 2 is not "a louder Stage 1": it is consistency between the software and the parts fitted.
How to choose?
The right question is not "which is the most powerful?", but "which one suits my vehicle and my use?".
- You mostly drive every day, with no mechanical changes: Stage 1 is made for you.
- Your vehicle already has performance parts, or soon will: Stage 2 lets you make the most of them.
When in doubt, we look at your vehicle, your engine and your expectations, then advise you honestly, even if that means recommending against a job.
Measured figures, not promised ones
The figures you find everywhere stay theoretical. With us, every job goes on the dyno, with before-and-after measurements: you leave with your real figures, specific to your vehicle. We work in a measured way, never pushing the engine beyond reason, and your factory map is always saved. The work therefore stays reversible, for instance before a resale.
In short
Stage 1 suits the vast majority of standard vehicles and transforms everyday driving. Stage 2 takes over once the mechanics have already evolved. In both cases, it is the dyno measurement and the bespoke work that make the difference.
Frequently asked questions
Is Stage 1 reliable?
Yes. We use the manufacturer's headroom in a measured way, every map is validated on the dyno and your original map is saved.
Can I move from Stage 1 to Stage 2 later?
Yes: as soon as your vehicle receives the right parts, we develop the matching Stage 2 map.
Does Stage 2 use more fuel?
Not necessarily: at the same driving style, a good map can even improve consumption. It depends on your use.
